How to Resize Pictures

If you’re resizing pictures (rasterized files), then this rule applies.

Resizing Rule

You can always make a big picture into a smaller picture.
You can’t make a small picture into a bigger picture. (pixelated)

Exception: Vector files can be resized to any size without losing quality.

Example: Big picture to a smaller picture.

1000 x 750

500 x 375

200 x 150

100 x 75

Example: Small picture to a big picture.

Now let’s try to make that 100 x 75 into the 1000 x 750 picture.

Summary

Stop making small pictures into big pictures and start finding big pictures with higher resolutions.
