Why You Should Use Stock Photos

Stock photo websites are a huge time saver for designers. The only con is that you have to pay a membership fee. This is usually a monthly fee for a certain amount of downloads. However, if you are using these files on projects, you will easily make your money back. Here are a couple reasons why I use stock photo websites.
1. Photo Library
Unless you’re a photographer and even if you are, chances are you do not have a picture for every potential design. Thanks to stock photo websites, hundreds of photographers are able to upload all of their photos for you to use. This is also a great way for photographers to make money, because they get percentages for each purchase.
2. Vector Library
So these websites don’t just have photos. They also have vector files. Simply download them as an EPS and you will be able to open them in Illustrator and alternate them. This is the biggest time saver, because it gives you somewhere to start from rather than doing it all from scratch.
3. Great for Ideas
You know sometimes I don’t even download a vector file or a photo. Instead I just browse a stock library for ideas.
For example: Say you’re wanting to make some business cards, but you don’t have any good ideas. Well you can search business card designs and see a wide range of examples to help you find some direction.
4. High Resolution and Quality
I know what you’re thinking. “But Matthew why should I pay a monthly fee when I can just find images on Google.” Sure, you can be cheap and use images on Google and chances are the good images you find will have low resolutions. “But Matthew I can advance my search and look for only high resolution photos.” Yes, you can do that and when you do you will see that all of those photos that are worth using have watermarks, because they’re on stock photo websites. So trust me, I’ve gone through this and I’m saving you a lot of time. If you do several designs a month, it’s totally worth it and you will get your money back by using it in the long run. You will save time and your designs will look better because you’re using professional photos. It’s a win-win situation.
